Teaching Program

Besides serving rural and suburban communities, we have a teaching program for medical and nursing students and surgical and anesthesiologist residents. We were affiliated to the University of Cuenca-Ecuador and the University of Azuay-Ecuador. We have received visiting students from several universities of North, Central and South America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.

This is a hands-on program that gives residents and students practical experience in preoperative and postoperative care, the management of the most common surgical pathology and operating room behavior (assisting in surgical and anesthesia procedures, passing instruments and circulating in the O.R.) This experience is according to the student level of knowledge and experience.

Besides teaching them the art and science of surgery and anesthesia we try to give them a human experience and the principles of solidarity and compassion for our fellow men and women.

Nine promotions of surgical residents and medical students, six promotions of nursing students from the University of Cuenca and five promotions of medical students from the University of Azuay have attended our service, contributed greatly to the service of rural and suburban communities and received the benefits of the program.
